Anyone want powdercoating done?
Arthur and I seem to have found a place with some very reasonable prices in Toronto. I'm thinking of eventually getting some items done, maybe changing the colour of the valve cover to blue, etc.
You Spa Yellow guys should get a matching valve cover.
Anyways, they say they'll do 4 rims for $250 plus taxes. $350 for a metallic finish + clear coat. Seems very reasonable to me. Around a 2 week turnaround time depending on industry jobs.

I got another quote from ALC
"ok, here is some more info,,,, our minimum charge per colour is $125.00
a single valve cover would be approx $150,,,, two @ $200.00, however if someone was doing more parts in the same colour the costs go down, so for example if a customer had approx $400.00 worth of parts to be coated say white and wanted a valve cover added in that run it would probably only be $50.00.
As far as rates go,, im sorry but our pricing is the same for everyone, whether an individual or dealership,
thanks again"
something just popped into my mine.. hahaha
one of you guys with the s2k gotta powder coat your chassis WHITE
attend import-fest and put mirrors underneth your cars.
that will beat those civics and tegs!!!

When powder coating is done is there any way to mask off an area so it does not get coated?
I have heard/experienced several situations at the track where wheel nuts do not remain torqued on the powdercoating. The theory we are working with is the coating is so strong and slippery that the stress of severe use allows the lug nuts to back off. We have used several torque wrenches and have verified the torque setting and still on new powder coated wheels we experienced this problem repeatedly this weekend until we took a piece of sandpaper to the area of the wheel where the lug nuts touch.

Thanks for bringing this back..I just realized he never got back to me..
Sorry guys..My brain aint what it used to be.
the only way to mask off an area is to cover it with a high heat silicon..
After it is sprayed it goes into an oven that bakes the paint..most stuff just burns right off..
I just went thru something today where the protector came off and they painted over the threads..its now fucnked up!!!!
but thats another story...I'll make some more calls monday

Yeah, you can mask off certain areas. I've seen dual and triple colours done in powdercoat before.
But Mike seems to know his shit much better than I about this stuff. Good to have him on board.
