Post Axle Nut and props to a good guy

Had this clicking sound coming out of the rear end of the 'S'. Went to the dealership and they said they didn't know if it was tranny, differential, or brakes.
Said I would have to pay for diag test... And that still doesn't guarantee that it'll fix the problem. I left...

Talked to a few people on here and thought for sure S2KObsession would know what to do. Bought a really big 36 MM socket and met up with him one night.

$8.00, broken screwdriver, 30 minutes and sure as shit the sound is GONE!
No $80.00 diagnosis needed. Totally kick ass.

If anyone else wants to do it and has a torque wrench I should be able to help you out to get this one done. It's a big relief.

Thanks for helping out man! Happy to have a good group of guys like this on this forum!

Did you replace the axle nuts? My rear keeps clicking everytime I leave from a light. I tried greasing the surface and threw them on with an impact but still got that damn click...

Thanks for the kind words HO.

We re-used the same axle nuts but if the noise continued we were going to try new ones. We will still do the new ones if the noise comes back!

O'malley, make sure you choke the axle nuts well. I wouldn't be trying to tighten it with an impact gun! Go fo 220ft lbs. You might have to stand on the tq wrench without leverage bar! When you re-torqued them with impact, did you notice that the nut went on further (Changing location of the choke on nut)? On Ho's driver side, it only moved about 1/16th of a turn... then we did passenger side and it was nearly 3/4's of a turn for crying out loud. FWIW, all of the factory yellow paint on the nut had not been broken yet which leaves me to believe the car didn't have the TSB done. No biggie though, it's done now!

you definately need to torque wrench to do this properly and also taking it off and greasing it thoroughly.

only grease the bottom, or seat of the axle nut. Not the threads! but it is choked so it doesn't really matter...

yeah i sprayed a little lube inside where the axle goes through too. I imagine the 220 is for ungreased threads as greased will give you a completely different reading.
