FYI- Last year the Salamander was July 4th weekend, trust me, I will never forget trying to get back into the states on that Holiday weekend...
Toronto is, and should always remain Salamander in Summer and Moose in Fall. I also believe the routes that have been developed for these runs are nearly perfect and should not be changed.
I think it is a great idea to organizer and develop some new runs, but if you try to change the Moose to something closer to Toronto, I can tell ya right now, I doubt you will get Upstate to join in. We come up because the route is so extremely beautiful.
We are doing about 1,000 miles or 1,600 kilometers during those weekends. And people there don't want to drive "all the way to Barrie"?????

In all, it was a great trip.

Two hours and 15 minutes to cross the border.
It was 90 plus degrees and no clouds in the sky.
For a while I turned the car off, and crept forward in line by pushing on the ground with my foot out the driver's door.
During the run it was so hot I wore a long sleeve white T-shirt to keep from burning my flesh off the bones.
Man, I love that kind of weather...now all we got is cold and rain...
A run to Niagara sounds like an extreme possibility.
I would say something like mid to end of May???

Last year the Niagara run was held the weekend before Victoria Day. Because it was a late spring, the trees were not in full bloom yet. But we went and it was a lot of fun.
So, that would be a good timeframe to do a spring run to the Niagara region. The Victoria Day weekend isn't such a good idea because there are a ton of cops out and there is a ton of traffic in the area from the tourists and cottagers. But around that time is best.
As for the Salamander, I'd like to change the route next year. Same general area, just better, less trafficed roads.
And I propose moving the Moose off the Thanksgiving weekend because it's just a pain in the ass to make it that weekend.

Someone up there needs to buy a Farmer's Almanac. I already bought mine. It is not perfect, but it gives you a good idea of what the weather will have to offer during a couple week period. And if you want to plan ahead you have to buy it because the on-line service only post 2 months because they want you to buy the book...
April can be cold, snowy and nasty.
May starts to get better and usually one weekend is absolutely hot as summer.
June starts to get really nice, but theen that starts to get close to the July Salamander.
