Default Canadian Invoice Price?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea how much the invoice price for an s2000 is in canadian funds? Also, when I do purchase my car, I will be able to purchase it in Canada or the US (I work in the states, but only a few hours from T.O.). Are there any advantages to buying the car in Canada vs. USA? I think the car is actually cheaper in Canada...

Thanks!

If you have US dollars, it's cheaper to buy it in Canada (especially with the current exchange rate - CDN dollar is very low lately).

Peace.

Car is cheaper in Canada, but dealers won't sell you one unless you give them a Canadian address.

Well I'm from T.O., but I'm just debating whether i should get my car from here or the states. I have family in Chicago, and I know that some high volume honda dealerships have advertised new cars for slightly above invoice. But from my calculation, even buying a car at msrp in Canada is cheaper than MSRP in the states...and since i will be making American $ to begin with, i won't lose anything in the conversion. But the problem is the invoice price in canadian $ is tough to find. They're widely printed and easy to find for US dollars...i wonder why it is so hard to get the invoice price in canada...?

Typically cars are cheaper in Canada.
my Accord for example, I paid 29 k, I saw on this board a member asking if 22.5k was a good deal, every one said yes. So Canada was much cheaper.

The S2K on the other hand is 48k and 32 in the US. is this not a straight conversion?

Ok I take it back, at one point it was the same, now it appears to be 32k us = 51k cdn

I swear when I bought my car it wasn't that bad... man our dollar sucks!!

anyways my point is, the S2K is not the deal it could be, all things considered.

Unless you have US $$$ it is going to be way more expensive to buy in the US because of our dollar. If you do have the US $$ I would still not buy it there, still buy in Canada because it is cheaper. BTW when you bring it over, you will get dinged for customs.

I am pretty sure Canadian invoice is 44.6K.
PDI = 650.

just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info, Matrix. I had heard about $45,000 before, and just wanted some confirmation.

Taking the car to the states, I know my insurance premiums will go up 60% since i'll be using the car primarily in the US. But even with the 60% hike, my canadian rate is much cheaper than most US rates i've found.

But I hadn't thought of the customs angle...unless the car is 100% paid off (which it wouldn't be...), i wonder if i'll have to pay any extra duty on the car when i cross the boarder...hmmmmm.....

If you go to: http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/details/hon...2000/index.html
and take the difference between MSRP and invoice pricing, you get $3567 usd. I know that URL refers to 2001 pricing but I doubt there is a big variance b/t the years. $3567usd, using a very generous USD conversion rate of 1.50 is equal to $5350 cnd. $48500 - $5350 = $43150 cnd.
Then again, I could be completely wrong about this and it could be ~$45K.

Hey everyone,

I want to talk to someone over the phone who is friendly, who could tell me about the S2000 that they own. I ordered one in, and I have to take it for a test drive, before I decided to lock myself intot he cost.

As for the cost, after tax this is what my dealer gave me.

$51 517.75 CDN
that is after all the taxes and shipping and stuff like that... When I looked into American prices, I found they were the same, but they were in American dollars, so you would save alot, buying in Canada.

if anyone is willing to be friendly and chat with me for about 20 minutes about weather I should buy an S2000 or not, leave a msg on my voice mail

re: canada and us

prices notwithstanding, don't you have to have a valid driver license of the country in which the vehicle is purchased?

the car has to be titled (and insured) on delivery, no?

you can't title a canadian car with a us license - ministry won't accept that

i'm sure it's the same the other way around as well....

also, not sure about honda, but when i got the S8, i signed a waiver/declaration stating that the vehicle will not be exported from canada for 2 years from date of service.

fyi, the audi is $14,000 cheaper in canada than in the US (in can $)

CAN msrp for my car is $104,055 (base, options, freight etc.)
US msrp for similarly equipped car is $73,845

$73,845 @1.60 = $118,152.00 - WOW, what a difference!

because of the exchange rate, it's ALWAYS gonna be cheaper for an american to buy canada.

another example - Acura 3.2 TL - CAN $36,000
US 30,000 (or something really close to it)

just some info from a guy who works with numbers ALL DAY
