cleaning Comptech filter
Do the foam filters that come with Comptech intakes require a special solution for cleaning or can I get away with something like dish soap?
I already have the oil spray to refresh the filter after cleaning.
Also. Is spell check down permanently on this site?

Yea use a good grease cutting dish soap, just rinse really well. Shake the filter dry, let it air dry if you can, then use the oil. That's how I've been doing mine now for a couple of years, works fine.

From what I know, foam filters cannot be cleaned like that. It might seem cleaner on the outside, but what really happens is that a lot of the dirt gets stuck on the inside of the foam (gets carried by the water to the "center" of the filter)
Also the porosity of the filter gets bigger once it is washed.
I would leave it uncleaned; or if it is really dirty, get a new one. You might want to email comptech for this one though.

^Yea that could work I guess, unless you dont' have the smoke and mirror cleaner. Dish soap works great. If I can see light through the filter when I couldn't before, it's clean enough.
If it 's really dirty I just run without it for a couple of weeks until I get around to cleaning it.
Cars making a funny sound after driving on gravel roads without a filter, wonder what it could be. GAS CAP maybe?

I have foam and performance filters on all my vehicles, the one in my CRX-SiR is over a decade old and works just great.
Here is what I do
- fill a bucket 2/3 up with the hottest water you can stand to put your hand in
- put a very generous amount of Dawn dish detergent into the bucket and mix it up (Dawn is the best grease cutter)
- submerge the filter into the bucket of soapy water and shake the crap out of it in the water
- this is where I usually have water and soap bubbles all over the place, the bigger the bucket the more you will be able to agitate the filter and the more you agitate the filter the more dirt you can dislodge from it
- empty and rinse bucket
- fill bucket up with warm water and rinse the filter
- keep rinsing till all the soap is out of the filter, this will take many, many rinses, do not attack the filter wih the garden hose, that amount of pressure can rip it
- shake the filter really good to get most of the water out of it
- let it sit for at least a day to dry
- oil it with foam filter oil as per instruction on oil can
