Default Digital Camera Advice

I'm looking for a digital camera for my daughters birthday next month. Something in the 3 mega pixel range, with rechargable batteries, and not over $350.00

What are you guys using?

What do you like for features?

Don't like?

Best storage media?

What model is the most user friendly?

And most important, anyone got wholesale hook ups??????

Thanks

Tim, it would be wrong of me to not plug Kodak. I have used almost every camera in the lineup and still use my "old" LS443. In Canadian money $350 should buy you a very nice Kodak Camera.

Kodak cameras are broken down into three categories, CX- point and shoot, DX- more user controls and LS- more stylish with bells and whistles.

EASYSHARE DX6340 - one possability
3.1 megapixels, 4X optical zoom, 3.5X digital zoom, MSRP (US$) $249.95

Storage media is Secure Digital, works very well for me. The Camera Dock makes transfering images VERY easy as well as charging the batteries. And I have to say, the Color Science software is really really good, the color on the pics is amazing! And, I have also played with the Printer Dock, it is too cool, just select the image you want, put the camera on the dock, push the button and in under a minute you have a 4x6" photographic print of extraordinary quality.

I am using Canon S400 - easy to use, around $400-450 range.

Canon cameras have excellent optics. I have an Elph S330 which is only 2mpix and already 2 years old.... I refuse to upgrade because it takes awesome pics with nice colors.

Try the elph

Or A60 (Bit cheaper)

whatever you do, ensure the software package that comes along with it is user friendly.

I use Sony primarily because when connected to my pc it's appears as just another drive and does not come with any funky folders, nor bells or whistles.

I can create "windows folder" like normal. Other cameras software tend to at times "take over" one's pc and then categorize them, store them and then get corrupted your pics are gone.

It happened to a friend of mine, she allowed her Canon software to do everthing.. It was worse that AOL , took over her pc completely, then somehow the software got corrupted, pictures LOST !!

so my recommendation is whatever camera you choose, create separate windows folders/categories as well.. will save a lot of heartache ..

just my $.02

I use and external USB device to read/write to all the different storage medias available....faster than my camera, but then again, I got the camera for free....
