I have always been a fan of the H22 turbo in a hatch if your doing drag and its not that much, probably $5000
If your doing circuit like racing then a lighter B 16, B18 would be the way to go

You're absolutely right, H22 is MUCH heavier than a B16 or B18. I have to admit my memory was not serving me well as I've been sick and not eating for the past couple days. Excuse.

A common problem that some people have with the 92-95 hatches are water leaks from the drivers side door. So i would check under the carpet if possible for rust. The 95's apparently do not have this problem.
As for motor swaps K20's are definitely the way to go, its a little more expensive to do but definitely worth it because that motor has a lot of potential then again it depends on what you want to do, like stated before the B16 is a good base to start at.

I would still go with a B series if its just a fun car you want with nothing to serious.

Anyone free this weekend? Alot of cars in the miss. area, I just want an extra set of eyes to look over the body.
I'll bring the magnets and the gap gauge
thanks for the input
looks like the mk1 / mk2 vw rabbits are too rare and too difficult for a newbie like me to work on...there are some nice bodies out there, but they are for at least 1g

B18's pretty heavy on the front end when you're trying to neutralize the weight distribution.
Realistically you aren't going to get enough power out of the engine to compete in a straight line with higher-end imports of a similar class, so I think the key is to out-handle them in the curves, so don't turn it into an understeering piggy with an engine that weighs hundreds more up front.

Power to weight ratio wise, still better than the s2000.

They be learnin ya good out there...
I have to admit I was not thinking very clearly being under the weather for a couple days and was confusing the pretty heavy weight of the H22; the B18 is really a pretty good motor with only a little more weight than the B16. I take back what I said.
