Idle Rpm
My S idles in at 1000rpm after warm up, should it be less?
my friend's S idels in at 700 - 800rpm.
Hopefully everyone will meet me this weekend at the import show, so I can felate you all before and after. I loves me da throat yogurt.

The idle speed as indicated in the service manual is 800 +/-50. Mine has always idled between 900 to 1000 rpm. For a manual car, this is not a big deal. I would rather have a slightly higher idle than a slightly lower idle. You will come upon a time when you come to a red light or stop sign and your idle will drop down to near stall and the engine will shutter. The lower the starting idle, the more it will stutter. As long as it doesn't stall, don't worry about it.
An idle of around 1000 rpm at operating temp is not a high concern. That's only 150 more than the upper limit as prescribed. This is pretty insignificant.
ps. As a final note, just make sure that the slack in your throttle cable is not too tight. It should have about 1/4" of movement at the mid-point (at the throttle body).

I just talked with him about it and he said how his was at 1000rpm but
dropped down to 700 - 800 after hitting the red line few times in one day.

I don't find that my idle changes much regardless of how often I redline during the day. About the only thing that has affected it is high intake temps while driving in slow city traffic. Humidity can also sometimes have an affect on lowering idle speed.
