True, but the cars have changed, that may make passing more difficult on older tracks. Aerodynamics particularily.
Still, not much passing if the others are way back, no matter how "pass friendly" a track is....

I think the drivers are forced into worrying about the risks - it is after all thier life they are risking. The aerodynamics and the higher speeds force this concern.
Without the aerodynamincs they lose downforce compared to the car in front, so they cannot pass without loosing control of the car. Can you imagine driving at approaching 300 kph and losing downforce because of the air in front of you has been upset by the car in front of you?
This, I think, is the main reason why the FIA wants to slow the cars down. Slow them down, aerodynamics become less of an issue, passing will result.

I'm not so sure the tracks are the problem, well except for Monaco, but nobody in their right mind should consider doing away with that venue!
When you look at the new wave of tracks like Sepang and Behrain the cars look like little ants out there because the tracks are sssooooooooo wide, and we are not seeing a tremendously greater amount of passing at those venues.
I believe it is a combination of aerodynamics, as in how dependent the cars are on this downforce, and the disparity of car & driver capabilities. As Marco said, when cars are separated by 30 seconds and the top 4 cars are lapping the field there is some serious disparity...

On Windtunnel last night the latest is that Bernie and Frank are going to make an offer to Jeff Gordon for more money than even Michael S. is getting just to get an American into F1 !!

I have to say..and I hate to say this...really hate to say it.
But Gordon can drive..there I said it.
I've seen him in an F1 car, Rally car racing REAL WRC drivers..and the guy kicks ass.
I don't, won't, will not ever be a NASCAR fan, but seeing him drive in other environments proves he can be competative behind nearly any wheel.
Eww I feel dirty.
Even Ron Fellows is driving NASCAR now because of the money. I can understand that.
