Default Renault starts to use their revised engine...

Fisichella Gets Revised Engine for Imola
By Alan Baldwin, Reuters, Thursday, 21 April 2005 10:38

Formula One Championship leaders Renault have boosted Italian Giancarlo Fisichella's hopes of success in Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix.

A Renault spokesman said on Thursday that the team had decided to give the Roman driver their revised 'B' specification engine a race ahead of schedule after analysing test data. Fisichella is entitled to a new engine without penalty after retiring from the last Bahrain Grand Prix but Renault had not intended to race the upgraded version until the Spanish Grand Prix on May 8.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso, Fisichella's teammate and Championship frontrunner after winning the last two races, will have to use the same engine that he used in Bahrain.

I wonder what BAR will be doing?

Maybe because Fisi needs the extra grunt. He's obviously slower than Alonso. I wonder if Renault is worried about the amount of testing Ferrari is doing.

I think they did the smart thing...Fisi is available for the new engine. They know Ferrari are coming hard - so they need to get some race stats on the new engine spec.

The man knows what he is talking about.

The fact that Fisi needs a new engine, be it the old design or the new design is what's key here. If they don't make the change now, then he would have to do Imola and Barcelona on the old design and not have the new until Monaco.

In addition, this gives them some real time race data before Alonzo gets the new engine design; and if you think for a second Renault is not going to throw every thing they have got at that Spanish race then you just don't get it...
