to reset/whack or not to reset/whack
Need some advice here...
First of all my car is kangarooing at low startup/crawling speeds...i've read that a map whack can fix this.
Secondly, after driving the gf's base RSX for a few days, it feels like the S is not as torquey as the RSX. I've also read that an ECU reset can fix this. (My car was in storage with the battery out all winter... my first few drives out were calm, hardly hitting VTEC)
I do not know if this has relevance but when I am city driving I hardly ever VTEC but I would like to have the power there when necessary. So, is the ECU reset worth it?
Question #1: What should I do? Map Whack? ECU Reset? Or Both?
Question #2: If I reset the ECU, do I have to drive it hard (if yes, how long) for my car to feel more powerful throughout the full band?
Question #3: Advantages vs Disadvantages of either process (ECU or MAP)?
I know I can post this in the UTH forum, but I figured I'd start here first and see your opinions and if anyone here has done it.
TIA and let's try to stay on topic

After resetting the ECU (unplugging battery) you should start it up and let it idle for a few minutes. After that, drive it around like normal. It does not take long for the ECU to adjust. One thing to keep in mind is to put fresh gas in when you do this. You could have had stale gas when you last reset the ECU.
Oscar, how many kms on the car? Maybe a spark plug, fuel filter, air filter change might be a good idea.

Are you simply talking about disconnecting the battery?

Have you ever needed to do the map whack or an ecu reset?

This is a common problem and a huge argument has never really been settled on this board about it. Some believe it's a defect.
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36366 is a good thread to read with links to other threads provide by xviper.
First I would make sure your throttle cable is adjusted properly. It should only have about 1/4" of play.
2nd you can pull your neg terminal of your battery off for a few min then do what Ian suggested letting it idle for 5min or so (this will reset the ecu) after you put it back on.
3rd while the battery is unplugged give the map sensor a couple whacks with the handle of a screwdriver. OR you can buy a new updated one. However some people have done this without much luck.
At 38K you won

yup.. use the xviper post
i've reset the ecu by was of pulling the fuse and it worked just fine
i've whacked the map sensor as well and that work fine too
i was told that when its about to stall , let it , don't give it gas, then let re-start it as the car has to remember where that dreaded 1000 -1500rpm range is ..

I believe the gas could've been stale after 2-3 months.
