Default Stand-alone Navi

i just took a road trip to NYC and it would have been really handy to have one of these things. manhattan was a breeze to mow around but some of the other boroughs aren't so straight forward. been debating getting on of these things and i saw a tech guy on cp24 recommend the new sony stand alone system, but has anyone tried this or anyother one that they really liked?

Go to Best Buy and play around with the floor demos. It's hard to judge the interface until you use it in real life.

Canadian Tire's on line store has a Nextar nav system on sale for $399.99. I thought about it for myself. 7" colour screen but I have not heard of anyone ever recommending this brand before.

Ive heard about the Can Tire brands and that they arent easily upgradable and arent as detailed as the rest of them. Also their software is a bit buggy. I have no 1st hand experience with them though and this was about their 1st models they had out, maybe they improved them. For 400 bucks might as well add 1-2 hundred and pick up a name brand one.
