What the Heck are these?
Hey guys trying to figure out what these are.
Tag - EVI-Tag3
Has 2 different id numbers, and a serial number. Im assuming this is some sort of tracking device. The previous owner did mention the car had it, but the previous owner to that had them installed. How would this benefit me? If i ever needed to track my car, how would I go about it. Does it only benefit the one with the "main system" module or what not. Is this boomerang? Or is it useless to me and potential dangerous, in which case, take a ride out to nunavut and dump in the sewer.
any insight would be rad!

It is an RFID tag and nothing to do with GPS, don't think it would be for tracking(short range) but you never know. Does it plug into the factory wiring or an aftermarket harness?
May just be for your trunk release? Interesting though.

RFID would be pretty low range for a tracking device. Don't know what that particular one is for but they use RFID at racetracks for lap timing. But it's usually just something the size of a small sticker.

EVI = electronic vehicle identification (system). Tracking can be used for any number of purposes including track timing, access control, highway tolls, etc. These are not OEM. I suspect this car has been raced significantly.
Just Googling "Tag - EVI-Tag3" finds some information.

I'm not sure how RFID would work for tracking... even if it was for lap timing, why would it be permanently mounted inside the trunk on the left side? If it was for lap timing it would probably be a suction cup type thing that you stick on your windshield when you hit the track.
My gut feeling is it was for keyless proximity vehicle entry for an alarm system installed. The RFID device would be for rear trunk release. My Evo has the same thing for the prox key.

Deanob that makes perfect sense. There were actually two of them behind each tail light. I assume they are kind of useless to me? As they work with a particular key fob / alarm system that is not engaged.
anyways thanks!
