so I made the mistake of playing with an iPhone last weekend (I purposely avoided them in the past because I knew I'd want one). I liked the phone, features, etc. I could even type fairly well with my oversized monkey thumbs.
my question is, how's the att service? call quality, network coverage, and all that stuff. I have sprint now (an unlimited everything employee plan for $30/mo which is REALLY hard to give up). the coverage is good if you're in a large city or on the interstate, once you leave those areas, service tends to go down quickly. just based on the att coverage maps, it seems like their network is similar in that regard.

I have had mine for a few months now - no complaints. I only had one spot where even EDGE didn't pick up & that was in BFE Arizona. My monthly bill averages around $100.00 a month. That was the least expensive one they had iirc.

Every once in a while I'll have a dead spot, but it's rare. I was already an ATT customer so it was an easy decision for me. Never had a dropped call and the phone itself is the brilliant!

As far as coverage goes, I think ATT is better than Sprint but not as good as Verizon. So you should be fine

Liz is very happy with her iphone and it's handy to have access to one. The coverage in more rural areas is not as good as Verizon's but overall AT&T has really improved themselves - they needed to - with the influx of new users. Here in Minneapolis the 3G coverage is great and the speeds are like woah.

Been liking mine OK so far. I do like the ease with which one can add applications and stuff, but there are a few caveats for me...
1. Batt life could be better
2. Txt msg caan b a paynn... (and usually requires both thumbs)
3. Menu lags a bit more than I'd like
4. Phone itself can be a bit unreliable. Pete already had one that self-bricked; mine lost all data upon a software update once
5. IMHO, outgoing Bluetooth sound quality (for phone conversations) is mediocre at best.
6. Why the F can't we have the screen auto-rotate sideways for text messaging???
Having said that, it is nice to be able to use 3G speeds to play internet radio stations from your favorite radio station. I sometimes have one of my favorite Los Angeles radio stations (102.7FM) on the morning commute; it's just weird to hear traffic conditions on a commute route I USED to take to the same employer! Email connectivity amongst several accounts is nice, and the UI for the email is good too.
All told, I'd probably do it again and get another 8GB 3G.
