My birthday present :-)
So, I was scouring Craigslist lately because I thought about picking up guitar (again). My birthday isn't until the 12th, but I stumbled upon an outstanding deal. I picked it up for 100.00 bucks in literally mint condition. Molly offered to get it for me for my birthday and gosh, I sure do love it.
Yamaha FG700S. It's always recommended as one of the best (if not the best) sub 300.00 guitar and even sounds better than some more expensive ones. I know Mike already knows since I posted in the Vintage section (there's a guitar thread) about it. Beautiful sound, great quality, and something I plan to stick with for awhile. *goes back to practicing chords*

Strings are in good shape as the guy said he recently put new ones on there (or did when he bought it new about 6 months ago) so I think they're ok.
As far as tuning, I do it by ear to the following site: http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/tuner/
Works really well IMO since I usually have my laptop close to where Im playing. Also, Im going through the following site for lessons:
http://www.justinguitar.com/
All in all, I think I have a nice budget setup.

I bookmarked the tuning site. Nice find!
You can also tune by getting the high E in tune and then progressively tuning the lower strings by making the same note in the correct fret. It would be easier to show you than explain it.
Pics up shortly.

My collection:
The Conn I bought about thirty years ago:
Front:
Back:
The whole body is bent maple - the action is easy and it's held up really well.
Fender 12 string - AKA great crippler of young adults.
Easy action too but 12 strings are hard to play - for me anyway.
Electra Japanese Les Paul knock-off:
In black. Imagine that.
Cort acoustic I bought for my dad. Has built in pickup and volume controls.
I got it after he passed but it mainly stays in the case.

I just posted up in the Vintage thread, but that Cort is beautiful man. Hows it sound?
Im working on tuning by harmonics, but Im not sure which fret/string to do whatever with once E is in tune, so Im still working on that. *back to practice*

Maybe this year is time to get back to both. The Cort has an amp plugin at the base like an electric and it really blasts through my little Marshall amp. This may be the summer I start a garage band.

I really need to learn how to play, i bought an electric guitar/amp/etc for ~$200 2-3yrs ago and I've only picked it up a few times..still can't play a single chord on it. I also have an acoustic I got when my grandfather passed away, it's in pretty rough shape and no clue if it's any good. All it says is Silvertone across the top of it.
