I would suggest some heat shrink too if you haven't planned on doing so already. Not sure how you are with installs, but I love that stuff!

 

I never used solder. I would really like to learn, so this will be my project.

 

Its not very hard, just takes a few tries to get it looking nice and flat. I would suggest grabbing some old wire and practicing with that before going onto the actual harness.

yeah, practice first. it won't take long to catch on. you can get a gun for cheap cheap.

 

A gun with medium power (45w or so) would be better than a cheapy 15W jobber. I hate soldering. Ugh. I burn my fingers more than I solder! Definitely get shrink tubing. Harbor Freight has a big pack for cheap. You'll need either a hair dryer, a heat gun (preferred), or a Bic/Zippo lighter (ghetto, but works).

 

Make sure you add the heat shrink tubing before soldering the harnesses

 

I hate when that happens

 

Also depends on your solder. I'll look at home to see what kind I have. I think silver solder is a bitch to heat up.

BTW you can get some nice heat srink from Parts Express. That is where I got mine. Whole selection of sizes and colors.
