Seeing the cost of a set of Volks doesn't even come close the the profit on a tire balance or alignment, can't really blame them.

Most of the people with Volks are uber-anal about any mark on them, which I'm sure they already know.

Mounting tires and balancing wheels can leave small marks on the wheel, even if done as delicately as possible. If I was running a business where I knew I could loose 2K all for less than 150$ profit I'd say No.

I understand that it can mark them. But balancing can be done with care and not really mar the wheel. they were just afraid of taking them off, not balancing them. oh well. I'll get it done one way or another.

I would try going to Discount Tire, they have new machines, I had a bad experience at Firestone in Brentwood where they damaged my BMW wheel.

yeah, I frequent the firestone just down the street from the brentwood location on ohb. had good experiences until today.

the manager there gave me the number of a guy who he sends all the dude w/ 23"s etc for balancing that balances the wheels while on the car.
I'm totally naive as to how that works exactly though.

They will put your car on a lift and use a machine that will rotate the wheel on the car. It was called finish balancing in Memphis at the Lexus dealer. Very worth the money IMO for it does the wheel and brakes all at same time. If it isn't too expensive.

Yeah the manager at the Firestone is a really cool guy if we're talking about the same place, they paid for my wheel to be fixed but he can't control if someone is a lazy sloppy ass worker.

yeah, he said that they had spent a lot of money lately on things that they shouldn't have spent it on (ie: your wheel, probably)
