Default Oil Changes

Hey Guys,

I have done a lot of surfing on the site and I am still confused about changing my oil. Since it is an everyday driver, do I have to use Honda 5-20 oil or can I get another brand/weight of oil? Money is tight with the holidays coming up and I was wanting to change the oil. However, because it is my baby, I want to make sure I do it right and on the normal schedule I have. It's the "anal" side of me. And for some of you, yes, saving a "few" dollars by doing it myself does help me.

I appreciate any input.

Thanks Guys!

I change my own oil because I want to use better oil than Honda has.
A lot of discussions have gone around as to what oils to use, my only recomendation is to use 5w30 synthetic. Full synthetic oil is signifigantly better for your engine, but it costs about $25 for a 6 quart box at autozone. Buy that, a decent filter and do it yourself. Other than that, it's a standard oil change. Oh, and btw, buy an aluminum oil washer to replace your old one, you can buy those cheap at autozone as well, just make sure to bring your old one or drain plug to get the right fit, easy enough. And if you want, you can PM me for my phone number for immediate questions you might have.

If you are going to use a Honda filter, be sure that your dealer gives you the right filter. A lot of dealers are selling the incorrect filter to S2000 owners. The correct oil filter part number is 15400-PCX-004.

Thanks guys and I appreciate the input. However, why is it necessary to have to replace the washer everytime you change the oil?????

The point of the washer is to deform when you tighten down the bolt, it helps keep those little drips from occuring around the seal. It's probably not necessary to replace after every time, but for like $.30 a pair of washers, who cares?

Honda PCX filter and Mobil 1. Good stuff. The Honda dino oil gets nasty way before the Mobil 1 does. When I change out the Mobil 1 at 5000 it's still a bit golden.
