Default Relocating, need pointers

I am planning to relocate to the Smokey Mountain area within a few months (its been pushed back and pushed back, but my house is finally sold and just waiting on one more to sell).

I have tossed around the possibility of where I want to move to and like the central location of the area near the TN/NC border.

I am looking for somewhere near a decent sized population center, but I will end up wanting at least 2 acres preferrably with a house, and leveled so I have room to add a large garage and a workshop.

I have been thinking more and more about finding something near the Dragon so that way I can assist with events, wether a garage is needed or a place to stay.

Any advice of areas that fit my needs or areas to stay away from. I am liking the areas surrounding gaitlinburg but not sure how the prices are.

If you are able to adapt to the slow paced lifestyle,I would think Jefferson County would be something to look into.Close enough to what you are looking for without being too close.JMHO

Thanks, still unsure, and dont think I'll end up making my mind up before I move out of Flori-duh. Still planning on a month or two timeline...waiting on that one buyer for this house.

I've got friends/place to stay in that area, in Johnson City so I can scope that out. The slow pace shouldnt be too much of an adjustment since I'm coming from USA's retirement home. Im more of a laid back, and have some land person as opposed to a downtown setting. Im also checking out suburbs of Denver, CO since i have a place there, but right now I hate only having a small place for my tools that my truck doesnt even fit in, I cant imagine not having a garage area since rent for a house will be quite a bit in Denver (and no chance at getting property in or around Denver).

Edit: Quickly glanced at the map and thought Johnson City was in Jefferson Co... but I see its a bit more SSW, which I like. I'll definitely check it out.

I live near Johnson City, used to live in Florida, the only disadvantage for the Tri-cities is we are right on the snow line in the winter, lots of time it will rain in Knoxville and we will get snow here, rest of year, not much difference

I live in Sevierville and love it. About 30 minutes from Knoxville and close to the smokies. However, there is a lot of tourist traffic.

I lived all over the country when I was younger and don't plan on ever leaving TN. This is a great place to live.

I'm partial to Blount County. Check out Maryville, Greenback and Friendsville. Fantastic back roads, including the dragon.
