Audio Upgrade Installed
So when I got the new S last month, I found out the previous owner turned the system up too loud and broke the speakers. They still played but buzzed pretty bad on bass responses in the song. I purchased the equipment I needed and did the install myself. The hardest part was running the speaker wiring to each of the doors and then running power from the battery into the cabin. Running wires down the door sills and into the trunk area was a piece of cake. My dad helped me create mounting brackets for the new speakers since they were larger than stock and also a mounting plate to fit the amp in the spare tire.
Here are some of the pictures...
Components: JL Audio TR 650-CSi
Amp: JL Audio G2250 (250/2)
I kept the stock headunit and used a PAC Line Out and tapped into the stock wiring harness to convert to RCA cables to the amp. Pics of the amp don't have any wiring to them because I took pictures early in the process. It's wired up, I just haven't taken pictures of it yet. Enjoying the system too much to be bothered.

Thanks guys. It's definitely an improvement over the stock system when the top is up. Top down... the highs are awesome but you can't feel much of the bass response.
Ah well, I was able to upgrade and still keep the stock headunit so I'm happy. No carrying around a detachable faceplate. woot!

here's mine..ALPINE CDA-9884 but now using ALPINE CDA-9886 with ALPINE BLUETOOTH INTEFACE MODULE..this thing is sick!! you can retrieve your contacts, missed calls and dialed calls by using the deck..no need to touch the phone.. old one is actually for sale with ipod direct connect cable and can be controlled from the HU..

just finished installing..the amp is now in updright position just right above the sub screwed on to the metal piece by the trunk popper arms..box is actually flush mounted in the trunk with a 12" KENWOOD SUB..with the help of INIFINITY REFERENCE component speakers the sound is crisp and ALPINE is known for clarity of its sound...and im using oem ap2 door panels so that i could use my INFINITY tweeters...

Nice sub, can you actually hear anything through the trunk area? I figured with the top down that it might block some of the bass. If there was no problem with thieves I'd have an aftermarket headunit like my previous Alpines I've had but I got sick and tired of taking the faceplate with me everywhere I went so no one would steal it.
@Hisham: I haven't purchased the iPod hookup yet for my ap2. Still trying to sell my old ap1 iPod/iPhone hookup in the For Sale section. Not bites yet probably b/c of the price.
I need to put my oil catch can up for sale too now that I think of it.

You are not gonna get much adding all that "system" without an aftermarket headunit... Im sorry to tell you but you are never gonna be using your system to its potential with a stock headunit...
btw.. if you are worried someone is gonna steal your headunit.. you should be more concerned someone slashing your top and poping your trunk to steal your amp. You can always close the radio door when you lock up and and put the detachable face in the secret compartment. Besides I would be more concerned about your 1500 Slashed top and 400 dollar amp than your 200 dollar stereo if someone were to break in but to each their own...
