Clutch owned.
SO. Let's start at the beginning.
Got a stage 2 competition clutch put into my 2000 s about a year and a half ago. Put less than 5 thousand miles on it running only 204 hp and some bullcrap tq number I can't remember but WAYYYYY below it's tq capacity and had to go to iraq.
I come back on leave and everything is good. I hit a curb and mess my rim and tire up so I have to send it to a shop right before I head back to the desert.
Here is the crazy part. While in Iraq my car wont start and my wife doesn't know what to do. It sits pretty for about 3 months and I finally get home. I check the plugs and they are about 3 turns loose, AND they aren't the NGK's I used. They are some AC Delco bullcrap. I run and get new plugs and install them correctly and she starts right up. phew. Apparently this shop decided to change my plugs?
I take her for a test drive and I'm not pulling as hard as usual. Me and a bud are riding in it and it sounds like i'm spinning tires so we just think it's the new tires need a little bit of wearing in. We drive for about 2 mins. and realize my clutch is starting to slip really bad, and it wasn't the tires after all. We run through our options of what it could be.
1. Shop that fixed my rim and tire burned the shiz out of it.
2. Sitting for too long caused it to rust or something and it's spent
3. While sitting it acquired a thin layer of rust on the disc and that is what is slipping.
So with option 1 or 2 I'm screwed either way, option 3 is the only one that could have my clutch still be functional. (side note: If you know me you know I drive my car pretty hard and don't mind breaking things if they are too weak to handle the power or my driving )
So we are thinking about it and figure we can just burn it a little bit to get the rust off and maybe it will start to catch. I start popping it and revving like a madman and lo and behold it catches like a champ and goes.
I was super excited at that point because I didn't have to get a new clutch. I start to drive back home with a huge grin on my face. I'm not even driving very hard and it just goes completely. I have to pull over and call my wife to get it towed.
Moral of the story is. Don't go to Iraq or have some collision shop work on something you could do. (On a side note I have an ACT 6 puck sprung on the way in it's place.)
End Rant.

Sorry to hear that -- unfortunately, the shop may have had some fun with the car while you were gone. A clutch disc would never rust up like that in 6 months. I've had cars sit for 2+ years before and the clutch still operates like the day I last drove the car. Sorry to hear that. Good luck.
