S.A. is not a nice place to live. The whole city is service based, Tourism is the largets source of income for the City. Austin the S.A. in Rush hour 2hr ish. If you Must work in S.A. Consider New Branfuels (sp). Been here many years. Life is too short to live in Dallas or S.A.
I travel to San Antonio a few times a month for business [from Austin] and find it to be a nice, clean and fun loving city. [Not to mention over 800 Mexican restararants.] It has a very good freeway system and housing is relatively cheap.
The riverwalk Downtown is a great place to take a date and can be a blast!
There are a couple of lakes to the north, but I prefer Lake Travis, only one mile from my house, which has bars, restaurants and Devil's Cove - a place where the ladies love to go topless!
Texas is a a world away from California, and I wouldn't think of living anywhere else.

I'd live in Houston before I'd live in SA, and if anyone knows how most people feel about Houston...
I don't understand why everybody is being so harsh towards San Antonio. You make it sound like it's this horrible city.
Rush hour is almost non-existent here, compared to Austin. You guys in Austin have one major highway going through your city with nothing to conveniently take you East and West. IMHO, Austin has the most screwed-up highway system in Texas because there were no plans for Austin to grow to the size it is today.
In San Antonio, rush hour is nothing like major cities you may encounter. Rush hour here, traffic still moves at 20-40mph even at its worst time of the day. Can't say that about Austin, Houston, or Dallas.
The cost of living in San Antonio is much lower than Austin's inflated market. In my honest opinion, I think if I had to choose between Austin and San Antonio, I'd stay in San Antonio. The extra costs associated with living in Austin just aren't worth it for what you get. And if you really like Austin that much, it's only 60-90 miles up the road, depending on where you're at and what part of each city you're going to/from.

I think San Antonio is a nice city, but too me anything is better than Corpus Christi, i've been here way too long and there is alot of things wrong with it. But I think I would like to live in Houston, mainly cause i'm a rockets fan. But San Antonio is great because it's a big city but with a somewhat small city atmosphere, plus housing is pretty cheap from what I hear.

The speed of traffic doesn't matter if the distance is significantly greater. Austin has horrible traffic FOR ITS SIZE, but on an absolute scale, it really isn't that bad.
I've been to SA, been to Dallas, been to Houston, plus many other cities in other states, and no city strikes me as being as dirty as SA is. Maybe you just like that kinda thing. :dunno:
