First Kill
Ok i know "its a bike" but i went from a s2000 and not being able to hurt many things in the straights to being unstoppable....or near it. I was on stone oak hauling ass when i spotted a new m5 coming up fast...we make it to the light and we are both first up. Light turns green and we take off slowly, he stays in first winding it up as do i. Right when he punches it in first, and redlines, i sitll had like fricking 7k left till redline and i was next to him
put like 10 car lenghts on him. Not bad for a newbie rider....i finally learned how to redline my bike at 16k in all gears without having it pop up on me now...it makes racing alot easier!
i know there are alot of fast bikes out there, but i honestly think the gsxr 600 is a supreme bike.....It even sounds great compared the my arch rival the ninja. So far i have only taken it up to around 140ish...they say it can do 180's...we will see. I will be agetting a "two brothers" exhaust soon and a power commander that will ad some nice power to it. If you love s2k's you need to get a bike, the high revs are insane.
P.S the m5 then tried the "lurching" technique where you put it in gear and keep his tach at like 4 grand and then punch it and let off to show me his power....thing is, all i had to do was lean back a little and downshift to first at 40mph to show him who was boss
its nice being able to redline in 1st at 80mph......

Good luck w/ the bike, you sound like a severe accident waiting to happen.
You've already bought an inappropriate beginner bike. I hope you'll improve your chance by taking MSF and investing in high quality gear.
No, a 600 won't do 180's, prob. lucky to break 170...but that's a good thing!
I once did 175 on my old ZX-9R (one of many sportbikes I've owned), and it was a rush, but afterwards it didn't seem like such a good idea.
It really takes almost no skill to beat a car in a straight line. If you really want to learn to go fast, take it to a road course and wear off those chicken strips!

Hmmmm i wonder.....if you really do know how to ride, you would know that it takes longer than 4 or 5 days to develope chicken strips on a bike. You would also know that a new 600 is fuel injected and not a carb engine anymore( meaning what your 9r could do in 01...mine does twice as fast in 07)....and that the fastest sprotbike class of last year was the 600's. You would also know that a good bike for a learner is one he feels comfortable on, not how big it is. It takes no skill to beat a car in a straight line? Its my 5th day on the bike....
Congrats you just joined the "im a little bitch hater club"

You don't develop chicken strips, you wear them off w/ high lean angles on the gas. I could do it in one ride or track session.
Yeah, I know all about fuel injection. My '01 RC51 had it, and I downloaded maps off the internet to upload via my Power Commander.
You may think you're comfortable w/ it around town, but I guarantee you'd learn faster in the twisties/on the track w/ a milder bike. All the top road racers started w/ smaller bikes, which is a contributing factor to how they made it as far as they did.
Go ahead and ignore my advice, it's no skin off my back. I've seen enough friends and acquaintances die over the years that the least I could do is offer some advice based on my experiences. Street riding is dangerous enough as it is (one reason I don't street ride any longer), it's up to you to decide if you want to increase or decrease your risk...
true... man.. when i was driving to boerne... some guy was doin wheelys on his bike to show off to some chicks.... on my way back to san antonio... his same bike was all in a ball of metal in the grass.... not a pretty site... be carefull man.. words from buddha ha.. jk but for real becarfull.. dont race people u know ull beat eather ha... no point ur just wasting gas..

Not on the street anymore...ironically, the S2000 had a lot to do w/ that. Much of the fun (ex. for the wheelies), but safer, more comfy, and I can enjoy it w/ my wife. I ride a KTM 450 XC (MX/dirt bike) and a Sherco 2.9 trials bike. When my body gets too beat up to take dirt biking, I may get another sport bike (Daytona 675 or GSXR750 would be the front runners) just for track days.
I don't ride on the streets any more either after a lady in a minivan tried to kill my wife and I by running a red light.
David -- listen to Chris... If you don't, we WILL be reading about you in the obituaries. You're young, you feel invincible. I used to as well. I DEFINITELY don't any more after my motorcycle accident and I was at a COMPLETE STOP when the minivan hit us at about 45mph. It still hurts and that was 4.5 years ago.
My bike was only a '99 Ninja 500R, and trust me....even being a VERY good driver in a car, that bike was PLENTY for me as a beginning motorcycle rider. Your bike has over twice the horsepower as the one I had and it nearly got me into trouble on more than one occasion. I think I also failed to mention that as a kid, I literally grew up on two wheels on dirt trails and the 500cc street bike was plenty enough for me.
Bikes are something you SERIOUSLY must respect.

Chris is right, if you want to learn go to the track. You can learn a months worth of stuff in just one day at the track. Also i would recommend the total rider course in pflugerville/hutto. they have a bunch of cool instructers. Dont take this wrong( i like hearing street racing stories) but when a bike beats a car it doesnt really surprise me that much, i raced by r6 against a couple cars untill i had a really close call that shook me up really bad..luckily i didnt get hurt but that isnt the case most of the time. bikes are alot of fun untill you take it to far and get hurt but if u ride smart and w/ all of your gear you might beat the odds.
