going for the speaker upgrade!
After hearing Chris's car a couple of weeks ago and Ramon's car last night with his new rears and the tweeters, I have decided to go for the rear speaker upgrade and tweeters in the A pillars.
I got a set of Polk components and also got a new pair of Polk 6 1/2's for the doors. Circuit City is having a buy one get 50% off the next set special on Polks gear so I decided to go for it since it looks like I will be keeping the S2K.
John, you should check out the Polks before you decide on anything. They sound great and this sale is a hell of a deal. I am getting six new speakers plus the 3 year, if I blow 'em I get new ones warranty for $200.
Anyone want a pair of Kenwood KFC-1677's for $40. I paid $80 for them about 4 months ago and they are a big imrpovement over the stock speakers and drop right in.

Aaron and I just found out that you do need to cut the basket with the Polk EX602A's so we are cutting away right now. We did plug them in and listen to them first to see if they really sounded better than the Kenwoods and they did so we are going for it.

OK, now we have just found out that cutting the basket does make a small difference but it is actually the outer ring that deos not seat down in the basket so we will just have to screw them down on the basket and have them fit slighty bigger than normal. Should not be a problem as quite a few other people have installed these.
Here we go!

BTW-- using the Pioneer's was not a simple task--- they do NOT fit properly, even after cutting the back out of the housings. We had to custom drill holes and use 3/16" spacers so as to not deform the speaker and securly mount it into the housings. The first one took about 2.5hrs to get right, the 2nd about 25min.
IMHO-- this is NOOOOT a "drop-in replacement" at all. It involves more than that. They do sound good, but if you don't have a lot of tools, time, and misc parts (spacers/screws that fit the spacers, drill, dremel tool)... then these aren't the speakers for you.

Ordered my Polk EX3 series components for the fronts, and coax for the rears last week. Just got in my Clarion 50x4 amp this weekend. I'm going with the JVC SH-99 HU "pretty soon"...
I dunno, HU or tires...?
