Also, if you had oil in the radiator, it would be "chocolate milk" in color, not blue green. Could be just an "all model" coolant. You will basically see MUD if you have an oil/coolant mix.

I'm still just a little confused. Even if 3 bars is where the AP1 allows VTEC to engage why would the temp gauge reaching 4 bars be reason for panic? It seems like that would probably be well within the normal operating range.
A lot of gauges these days are dummy gauges. They go up to a certain spot and remain there until the car starts overheating. My Miata for example will stay at 12 o'clock on its analog gauge until it gets to 240*F which it then starts creeping up. 240 is about the limit for that engine before the head is under risk for warping. So don't always take stock temperature gauges for what they read; they may not be linear. I haven't read up on the S2000 gauge so I don't know if it's linear or what temperature the bars represent.

Isn't boost fun? I'm dumping my NC off soon to get the Cosworth supercharger removed. Won't be as much fun on the street, but at least it will run consistently on the track.

You can always try changing out the thermostat and see if that fixes it.

You sure that one fan isnt acting up once it heats up? Are both fans running once it goes past 3 bars?

You can also test your current thermostat on the stove. Boil water in a pot, make sure you have a thermometer to measure the water temperature. Get the water to about 180*F and drop the thermostat in. Keep increasing the water temperature to see when it starts to open up (first number) and then increase the temperature more to find out when it fully opens (second number).

my fans do continue to blow after three bars.. and I have been gone for 3 weeks and just now getting to replace the thermostat and now finding out how much of a pain in the ass it is. Any pointers from anyone? I know to make sure the pin is up, anything else? A friend of mine (who I now realize knows nothing about the s2k) told me its easy to replace the t-stat without draining or doing anything fancy..HA!

7-8 bars in an AP2 is normal. 3 bars in an AP1 is normal.
