2000 to 2003 models are AP1s. 2004+ are AP2s.. read the details here:

AP1/AP2 is the chassis code and it's part of your VIN.

I've had my 05S2000 for about three months. Nearly bought an 01 but from what I've read here, I think I made the right decision. Very informative. Thanks

Neither car is the right or wrong decision -- it all depends on what your preferences are. Personally, I would not want to give up the rush of the 9000rpm redline in the AP1 car. With that said, AP2 cars make better daily drivers because they have shorter gearing and more low-end torque.

'course, torque is all relative. All normally-aspirated S2000s are still quite torqueless... I haven't had a daily driver with less than 320ft/lbs of torque for over 5.5 years now.

I didn't know what I bought until after I bought it. I would like to have the first, mine and last year models. Extremely fun and unique; plus I have met some of the coolest people in a short period of time due this car.
Thanks

I don't know if I'd want a 1st year model, unless you just 'have to have' it... I have one, and aside from it being the lightest of all the years ('00 and '01 are virtually the same), I'm not a fan of the plastic rear window.

Now, an '09 CR would be a nice car to 'collect' and keep nice for later on, but cars are terrible investments.
