Hi All. Does anyone know of a good place to go to change out the rear plastic window with a glass window? The plastic window has a cut in it and I don't want to spend 1800 for a whole new top (like the dealer says I MUST do). Some reason, I just don't buy that. Thanks for the help!
One option is to purchase a '03+ soft top (around $700 from hardtopguy.com) and retrofit it to the frame. This is not an easy task, but there are step-by-step instructions here on the forum (in the Library section, I think), and one of the local members (svann) has done this before.
I thought I heard one of the S owners talking about getting a Robbins replacement top on last weekend's drive. Thought he said $525 and that it had a glass rear window. That would be a great deal if true. For install
I looked at, but never used, jandhautotrim.com. They are down on Slaughter Lane and seem helpful and very specialized in doing this kind of work.
The OEM top w/plastic window has a few design flaws that result in premature wear around the frame hinges. The '02-'06 versions have a plastic shield to protect the top material from the frame points. You'll want to replace the whole top anyway. AHM assisted in the cost of replacement because of these problems. I replaced my '00 top with a new OEM glass window version (from hardtopguy) using the DIY instructions on this board.
The Robbins top is a lower cost solution. The OEM glass retrofit takes about the same labor and a couple extra pieces of elastic and nylon webbing riveted to the frame.
I believe First Texas Honda uses J&H for factory replacement labor. J&H can offer you the Robbins top. Their quote was fair but I opted to go DIY.
