A new top with glass window can easily and perfectly retrofit on a car that came with a plastic window. There is no doubt. I have it and there is nothing more to say about it. The cost should be not a penny more than replacing with the plastic top.

This has been discussed in detail in the thread labeled RETRO-FIT is Possible so do a search. A week ago I ordered a soft top with glass and the defroster parts from Hardtop guy for about $900 shipped. Install doesn't seem terribly difficult, just time consuming. Some dealers will tell you you need to replace the frame which is another $1200, but you can easily modify your existing frame instead.

I have a hardtop, but the thing I don't like about the plastic is that I have a window roll so I can't just put it down at a stoplight unless I want to spend the next week trying to remove the dimples it leaves when I lower it. That and the visibility increase that you get with soft top up. With the hardtop, you need to commit to the whole day or couple of days when you put it on since it's still somewhat of a pain even with a hoist.
