Default looking into tires....

my rears are shot and I picked up a razor blade that punctured my rear/passenger further necessitating replacement. the fronts are low enough to replace, so there's two full sets (f/r) I'm considering:
- Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S
- Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS Pole Position

any thoughts on this? I'm trying to stay in the $150-range per tire; these tires are off discount tire's website, although I'm open to suggestions. but I want to stay local, so nothing off tire rack.

funny you mention it... I was considering a new set of rims with the tire purchase, and my eye caught these:

good thing they carry them!

I looked up the tires on Tirerack and got DiscountTire to pricematch them. I got Dunlop Direzzas for $127 front and $159 rear each. I'm sure you can do the same with the other tires you're looking at. On one of our drives the Audi TT got a puncture in one of his tires and instead of the Direzzas he picked up the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS Pole Position and said he's been liking them so far.

Direzzas are about the best compromise I've seen in terms of price, performance, and longevity. Just a bit noisy.

I'd keep buying them again and again if I wasn't switching to R compounds.

You're not going to actually drive with those from Austin to H2R are you? Are you going to get a trailer setup?

I'm not planning to do a trailer setup, but I haven't decided whether I'll just leave them on or leave them @ H2R & swap them out when I arrive. I'm inclined to just leave them on and drive back and forth, since most of the wear should occur on the track.

those Direzza Sport Z1's are tempting, but I don't have the turn-around time to wait on ordering them....

problem is, the best thing I could find so far are yokohama s.drive's, which don't seem bad.... especially considering it's just for the daily grind, and they seem to have a longer lifespan. but wow, there's some scathing reviews of them in the tire section....

well, in any case, it's certainly a step up from the crap tires I currently have... shit, I think putting that spare tire on was an improvement....
