Default No Flp-pulled Over

Heading back to S.A. from Austin on 35--out of all the surrounding cars (15-20) (we were all going 63-65mph ) around 7:30 p.m.--I was pulled over just for no front license plate. (I was like "what did I do--what did I do?")
At least I only got a warning for no flp --phew--because inspection and registration expired 5-31-02!

MY LUCK!!

Local PD or a state trooper?
I think you are supposed to have a 5 day grace period on the inspection, though I'm not sure if thats the law or just common practice.
Lucky on the plate warning though

Last time I was pulled over for no flp - 1993, in my new SC400 around Waco on I35, the state trooper made a point that he owned a corvette and that if he had a flp on it, then by god I should have one as well. The ticket was a warning.

In Austin, the cops have usually been relaxed about this, but this could change with the announced crackdown on traffic enforcement. The theory (Broken Windows) is that if you violate on the little stuff, you are more prone to go to the dark side on the bigger infractions.

Keep you license plate in your car, and the bracket, but crack the bracket so its broken through. Say it got kicked or broken some how. Then all you have to do is say you have a new bracket on order. I'm gonna ry that next time I run into it.

How do you explain the plugs?

Easy, the plugs are there to keep debris out of the threads

I think the license plate bracket bolts would do that equally well. It'd have to be a pretty gullible cop to fall for that story!

Thats my story and I'm sticking with it!

Oh and by the way, I have some yummy donuts here if you'd like one officer.

Whats odd about having the plugs? Most people keep things like that for when they need to sell the car or other situations.

Chris, are you talking about the reason for having the plugs is unbelievable, or the broken bracket?

I think he's referring to the fact that you (and a bunch of other people) are driving around with the bumper plugs in, and then you're gonna claim that your bracket just got broken and that you've got another one on order. Chances are, if another one was on the way in just a few days, a person wouldn't go to the trouble of finding their bumper plugs and putting them in. Either way, some cops will buy it, some cops won't. It's always a gamble, but a $10 fix-it ticket isn't that devastating..
