I haven't ran a front plate since... 2007 and I'm keeping it that way. I just took the front plate off the new daily driver as well. The current laws state that it's still not legal but it's not a punishable offense. I hope this passes. I've only gotten crap for no front plate once and that was being pulled over for slightly speeding in a small town; got warnings for both thankfully.

I just recently got pulled over for this and was told to put it on.
The officer already had someone pulled over and I slowed down and moved over, trying to be safe and respectful. I get past the scene and see him get on his bike and he pulls me over really do not want to put one on so I hope this passes. Front plate on an s2k just looks horrible.

What I used to do while I lived in CO was to pinch the front plate between the passenger seat and the center console, when I have to either park the car or I was pulled over I just threw the plate on the dash against the windshield, when the police asked about the plate I'd tell him that Im waiting on the dealership for the frame that goes on the bumper and they will leave me alone... Thats why one of the reasons I kept my Colorado plate to come here to TX since they cannot enforce Texas vehicle safety laws to outta state cars, I have 5% tints, no front plates and theres nothing they can do about it...

Better talk with your insurance agent. You may find that insurance can deny liability if you don't meet their requirements concerning domicile, DL location, and plate location.

All they require is valid DL and registration, the real thing that u are.really obligated.to do is to get an insurance policy from the state of residence, I moved from CO to MA and from there to TX and next will be FL, so every time I move from state I need to.change my policy to the new state of residence because every state has a minimum required policy and they are all different... At least that has been with geico and elephant insurance so far...

My vehicles, yes. I've never run a front plate on my cars, only trucks, and have paid for one no front plate ticket in 30+ years of driving. It's not a moving violation, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Thumbs down

Sadly, HB657 has been languishing in committee. I've written to Rep. Larry Phillips, who is chair of the Transportation committee, (district62.phillips@house.state.tx.us) and asked him to have an up or down vote on HB657. Other bills that were heard in committee on 3/12 have been voted on. Why not HB657? Please send him an e-mail if you want this bill to have a vote.

Now, there's another assault on owners. The base registration fee (before counties tack on their own fees) is $50.75/year. HB3664 will raise it to $80.75/year! Own a motorcycle or moped? Registration fees will rise 100%, from $30 to $60. Vehicles that weigh between 6001 and 10000 pounds will go from paying $54/year to $108/year! Sadly, this did pass the appropriations committee by a vote of 21-1. And, HB3664 does NOTHING to fix current Texas roads. All the additional income goes to NEW roads (design/construction/acquiring land) and 1/3 of the revenue goes to debt service on current roads. Please contact your state representative and tell them to vote no on this tax increase (disguised as a fee).
Find your representative here.
