Default Sound System Upgrade------Help Needed!!!!!

I am thinking of upgrading my system with the behind the seat system as well as a plug and play system for the traunk for car shows. If you hae done any of this let me have your suggestions. A pic would also help with ideas.

I think the S-Pods in the rear rollbar hoops is a good idea for your rears and a custom tool well sub enclosure with amps mounted in the trunk would work. Check out the electronics forum, there is a thread all about systems that people have installed. If you need any physical help let me know. I used to do car audio/security installs and could help out if you're doing it youself.

Sounds like he's referring to something like the stealthbox that already has the enclosure and sub made to fit, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info on the stereo threads. Should have thought of that myself. As for the plug and play thats a system that allows for the trunk system to be unplugged when you want to use the traunk area.

Yeah you could probably make the amps stationary and then just use a toolwell box that you could just unplug and lift out when needed.

Here's what I have:

Following the signal chain, you've got the Clarion DXZ735MP sending the full range signal to the ARC MX3.

The ARC MX3 splits it up three ways into 500 Hz LP, 500 Hz to 3200 Hz BP, and 3200 Hz HP.

An Autotek SX-4160 gets the 500 Hz LP and splits that up into 100 Hz LP for the Adire Audio Brahma 12 (not pictured) in the trunk and the 100 Hz to 500 Hz BP for the Adire Audio Koda 6 in the doors.

A JL Audio 300/4 gets the 500 to 3200 BP and 3200 HP and just passes them along to the Morel Acoustics MR-55 and Focal Audio TN45 in a kick panel.

I haven't taken pictures recently but I've replaced the Dayton DSQ with an Adire Brahma 12

The first step in making space for your amps and subs is to remove that styrofoam piece with the spare tire tools, wrap up the tools in a towel, and put them in the spare tire. Now, you have the whole tool well free.

There are a number of boxes for 10" or 12" subs that you can build that will fit in the tool well. I do have all the measurements if you want them. These are the three general shapes:

The easiest solution for a space-saving, removable sub is the WLaurent 8" sub enclosure. Here it is in PJK3's car:

PM WLaurent for more info. They're $175 with shipping and WLaurent's very helpful with whatever you decide.

I can recommend a few 8" subs (or 12") whichever way you decide.

As for the amp, if you get a 12-box, you can bolt it to the front of your sub box for easy removability or if you get an 8-box, just mount it face-up with T-screws next to your sub...

Oh, and one word of precaution for your overall setup; Anything that's easily removable for you will also be easily removable for a car thief

My setup:

OEM head unit
PPI 100w/channel amp
Alpine CD changer
6.5" Eclipse Point Source speakers in door
4" Eclipse Point Source speakers behind seats

Sounds great (at least stationary or w/ the top up, could have a little more kick top down), looks stock. If I decide to keep the car long term, I 'll prob. think about getting a JL Stealthbox and a 4 channel amp w/ built-in crossover.
