Sound System Upgrade------Help Needed!!!!!
Did you buy it already, or are you looking at it?
A friend of mine is trying to sell his 3rd gen... New engine and turbos about 20k miles ago. Most of those 20k miles have been from him driving it between here and College Station to visit his fiancee every weekend.

Stovk vs. Stock, power is a little better on the RX-7 (probably a few tenths faster in the 1/4 mi), and handling is quite a bit better I think. I don't have the skidpad numbers anywhere handy...
Of course, the one I bought has full suspension and is putting down 340 whp with some bolt-ons. Its in the shop getting the engine rebuilt and ported...dunno how much it'll put out then. The guy who owned it originally built it as an Autox car.

*EDIT* RX-7 .97g on skipad, S2000 .92...but you have turbo lag, etc...

The RX-7 is a great handling car and, IMHO, is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.... It's just the reliability is what stops me from ever considering buying one. Everybody that owns one always seems to say, "It's in the shop getting the engine rebuilt" or "It's on it's 3rd engine....but the car only has 100k miles on it"
It just doesn't make sense to me why nobody has figured out what it takes to make one of those cars reliable (other than going to a single turbo and upgrading everything related to the cooling system). As soon as you can find one that will last 100k (in stock tune, with the twin turbos), I'll sell my S2000 and buy one. *sigh*

Do you want an explanation of the parts or links to the brand names? Either way, here's everything:
Head Unit Clarion DXZ735MP
Link - clarion.com/sourceunit/srcunit03.htm
You know what a deck does...this one plays MP3's and WMA's, has sub out, adjustable LP crossover, and sub control
Electronic Crossover ARC MX3
Link - arcaudio.com/arc/navigation/mx3prodp.htm
This splits up the frequencies which get sent to the amplifiers. This one has 12 dB slope and HPs and LPs for each input
Tweeter/Midrange JL Audio 300/4
Link - jlaudio.com/amps/3004.html
Amplifies signal. This one has 75 watts to each channel and has crossovers high enough for tweeters
Midbass/Sub Amp Autotek SX-4160
Link - autotek.net/streetmachine.htm
Mean little amp...built like a brick and bridges to give 320 watts to the sub
Tweeter Focal TN45
Link - focal.tm.fr/gb/car/archives/polyglass/tn45.htm
Tweeters cover the highest two octaves of the audible spectrum. Bright and very natural-sounding for a titanium dome.
Midrange Morel USA MR-55
Link - morelusa.com/renaissance/mr-55.htm
Covers 3 or so octaves. This one has a sealed back and a shallow depth so it was easy to make a kick panel for
Midbass Adire Audio Koda6
Link - adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/koda_6.htm
Also covers about 3 octaves. Might not do so well in a home setup but with cabin gain, extends pretty cleanly on down to sub levels
Subwoofer Adire Audio
Link - adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/brahma_series.htm
Covers the lowest two octaves of the audible spectrum. Very musical with almost no distortion at any level of excursion. Most important for the S, it was designed for small boxes.
Misc
Power cables Knukonceptz. Give the amps and crossover power from the battery and ground them.
RCA Cables Knukonceptz, Phoenix Gold. Carry signal from deck to amps
Speaker wire Knukonceptz. Carries signal from amps to speakers

I was just wondering about Morel and Adire. Those are two relatively unknown brands.
The thing that jumps out to me is the fact that most speakers (midrange and tweeters) are designed to compliment each other, and have a crossover specifically designed for that. So by putting two different brand components together, is it possible you ended up with the two not complimenting each other as well as if you had stuck with a Focal set? If I remember correctly, they have a full 3 way system.
I will agree, Focal makes some sweet tweeters. I've never heard their titanium tweeters, which SHOULD be bright, and should keep all the unwanted resonances too high to hear.
The one thing I was focusing on when I was thinking about a system in my car was components that could handle a lot of power and had a decent sensitivity. You really need that extra volume when you are on the highway in this car.
I didn't put too much money into it though, cause the S2000 just isn't a great car for audio. My RX-7 should turn out to be much better (Front speakers AND rear speakers stock, plus the hatch). I need to see if I can make an adaptor plate to put some 6.5" components in the rear though...
