************HOUSTON DRIVE FEBRUARY 19*************

GTG 2-19-2005. analysis/random notes.
*** THE GOOD
Nobody crashed.
Nobody got a ticket.
I think that just about everybody had a good time.
I am going to assume the map was perfect because nobody has complained about it?
*** THE BAD
What the hell happened to the groups? There was the Modena/NSX/RSX group and then pretty much a mish mash of everybody else. I think next time the groups will get picked out in advance and everybody will get a map. Also, I think a "tail man" will be designated to round up stragglers and help out the lost.
*** THE UGLY
The "kamikaze" drivers
First and foremost the majority of drivers acted rationally, however there were many that did not. I think because most drivers don

and that's a good reason for keeping it S2000 and a few guess. Some of the stories I heard about speed at BW3, they made me glad I didn't go. That is done on the track.
Also it may of helped to send groups out, say every 5-10 mins. For our poker run, we will start everyone a minute or two apart. I know that some are still going to bunch up, with stopping for cards and traffic.

haha, I got lost twice as well. The first time, I was on my way home on 6 until JC convinced me to head back to Navasota at 105. Spent 30 minutes by myself on the back roads playing catch-up. So much for Mugen-Power. Fun though driving solo without slow drivers in front of me.
Recommendation: The run should be divided into small groups next time (~5-7 cars or so). Each group should be led by a "pace car" who has adequate experience in road-racing (ie. Texas World Speedway, not Southwest Freeway)). That way, the group leaders will have enough foresight to see whether the next patch of road has debris (or cattle), whether there's adequate road to pass slower vehicles, and ultimately control the speed (especially entry speeds). Those who don't have experience most likely drive with tunnel-vision. At least they can follow the lines and properly hit some apexes. This also makes the event safer and not allow someone to go in too hot into a high-speed turn.

Actually we had planned on the groups being smaller and leaving 10 minutes apart, but after we were let out of the conference room, everyone ran and jumped in there cars ready to go and some left. After that it was too much to try to pick group leaders and times to leave since the third group had already left without the other half of the group. So then I was trying to combine groups. That didnt work too well so I just said "Lets go" haha. There was a slight time schedule so we could not stay there for much longer. The next one will be more planned out, im learing alot now.
