Obviously too young to remember the last active conscription.

Just curious...why don't any of you seem to feel that you a commitment to the maintenance of your community and country?

i think we all have pride in our country and support our troops there now, but in my case, I almost see it as another Vietnam. I dont know a lot of things about both conflicts, just what I have read and heard which I know not all is truth, but it does seem that they are both politically driven, in that in Vietnam and in this case we are trying to replace the existing govt with one like ours. I believe that helping people is good, but sometimes it almost seems that they dont want our help so why should more of our young americans, me being 23 about to be 24 and still elligible to be drafted, die for trying to help people that may or may not want our help.

I would gladly volunteer in a heartbeat if our shores were being invaded and you could argue that us being in the mideast is preventing terrorism. Whether their govt is a a democracy or whatever terrorist will still be able to hurt our people. And our affairs in the mid east is probably feeding the fire for them to hit us even harder. I do not believe there will ever be an end to terrorism so the best place to fight it is right here where it would hurt us the most.

perhaps i am naive in my logic, but that is what i believe. I support our troops in whatever they are told to do, but it is the people telling them what to do and why to do it, is where my pride falls short. i also believe that our actions should be supported by the UN. Why should the US take the majority of the burden like we are now. I think if we had UN support there might be less of a need for a draft.

just like in Vietnam people will be trying to dodge the draft cause although we support our troops we dont whole heartedly believe in the cause.

I think the issue is not that people are unwilling to make a commitment to "the maintenance of your community and country", but rather to the maintenance of the misguided policies of the current administration. Invading a foreign country under the flimsiest of pretenses and without the support of the international community does nothing for the stability and security of your local neighborhood.

Oh, and for what it is worth, the US should not have to "take the majority of the burden like we are now". But Dubya and his people chose to, so go complain to him instead of the other countries. You'll have a great opportunity for that come November.

damn...mike thinks.

I could also go on and on about what I believe. Bottom line, I of course don't WANT to go, but if drafted, I'll gladly fight for my country. Although, I'll be scared as shit

This is old news.

If this goes through...I'll be a happy man the day I tell the Federal Government to go themselves.

If you don't like "I support the troops" then try "Kiss my ass!". I think I can safely speak for all of the Houston members when I say that we do support our government and our troops however we would rather they be home with their families (including my brother!).

Please don't come into our forum with some BS like that.

Riddle me this... Why did we go to "war" with Iraq? Terrorism, weapons of mass destruction or the threat of another middle east conflict? Terrorism - nope that was Afghanistan, weapons of mass destruction - where are they, another middle east conflict - where's the intelligence data? The Bush administration has not been able to produce any tangible evidence to support their decision to go to war. So until they do, piss off.

I agree with KewlWhip on this one. I really don't back the government on there reasons for being there, because as of yet they have not produced evidence of any sort. If I was drafted, yeah I'd go, kiss my life goodbye, and put everything on hold just because some CNN nut says as americans we have a duty to free people. (Made me laugh) I'm not a draft dodger, and I would fight, but not because of the governemnt, but to protect myself and the men who rely on me and vice versa.
