Default Front Plate?

After the last GTG I went to, I went to see about the bumper plugs to take off my front plate. The parts guy at John Eagle said that it was illegal not to have the front plate on your car.

I've done a web search and found a reference to a fine of $150 in one Texas town for not having the front plate.

However, I also found a referenece to an initiative to eliminate the front plate entirely, as a cost savings measure. 3M and the DPS where both fighting against it. 3M makes the reflective material and the DPS wants two plates(my question - if it makes such a big difference then why isn't the DPS pushing for four plates?!?). Anybody have any info on it.

I know that is illegal not to have a front plate. I have gotten a ticket (Wife got it) But this was years ago. I got a Ticket yesterday day for Speeding, and they said nothing about the front plate. So I know that I am risking a ticket by not having one, but the odds of getting a ticket for it is slim.

I think it depends on what you're doing when you're in your car. If you're not breaking any other law, it's unlikely that you'll be stopped for no front plate. If your changing lanes back and forth or speeding, you might get stopped and be given a ticket for no front plate. Most of us in Houston do not have a front plate and most of us have not had any problems.

Wow, do you have your front plate on now?

Anybody know the results of the initiative? Still pending, failed, passed for implementation next year?

My wife got a ticket about 2 months ago in her car and I've had 3 tickets in the previous 6 years before my S2k. I must be making up for the "most of us".

cops might not give you a ticket for not having a license plate if they already gave you a ticket because if it's off, it gives them the right to pull you over whenever the hell the feel like it and get you hopefully for something else, those bastards!!!
