I got a question for all ya'll houston S2k owners running CAI's. I have read several posts regarding CAI's collecting rain inside the intake tubing thru a lil hole thats in the hood and the water seems to drip right on top of the filter. I know for sure thats a fact. Now my question is what do you guys do when its raining...go back to stock (like i just did) or any other solutions.

This does not apply to people who dont daily drive their S2k, i do...therefore im concerned. I dont want to hydrolock my motor. Anyways, as we all know that houston's canal system sucks and it gets flooded pretty often almost evertime it rains. SO what do you guys do? Does that umbrella over the filter mod really work for houston or not?

By the way heres the post that has the mod im referring to (incase someone isnt aware of it). CAI Filter Umbrella Mod

Cheers
Robbie
i hate the fear of hydrolock theory. YOU WOULD HAVE TO SUBMERGE THE WHOLE INLET OF THE INTAKE FOR AN N/A CAR TO SUCK UP WATER! unless your running FI or something with a high intake pressure dont worry about hydrolock, just dont drive through any lakes

that said i have run cai on countless other applications and never had a problem with hydrolock. it will however get your filter very dirty very quick so buy a reusable filter that can be cleaned

Robbie, for future references, you can ask questions in our technical/mechanical thread. The umbrella mod is like a shower cap deal. You would have to be submerged in a good bit of water in terms of height for any hydrolocking to occur. My previous s2000 had a aem cai with no umbrella and made it out fine. I daily'd my s2000 too if that helps. Umbrella mod gives peace of mind.
Sorry man, i knew i did something wrong after i posted the thread. Wont happen again.

Now getting back to my question...So your saying if i put my AEM CAI (NOT V2) back on without the umbrella mod i should be okay? What about if i just plug the hole and not do the umbrella mod, would that be better? So you drive your S with out the hole plugged or the umbrella mod and park it in rain and still doesn't collect water inside your intake?

I am really curious and dont wanna mess my car up as this is my first s2k...and i love the damn thing sooo much already (dont we all?)

I go to school and park my car and it will be raining outside and all im thinkin about is - Is my car okay? Therefore, i just went back to stock at least this way i can concentrate during my classes. lol

Mine was super dirty when i cleaned it. Curious why they stop making the bypass filter. It was one of aem's remedy of the situation but you lost hp. Imagine straw with a hole in it type of deal. Same principle.

Pictures of the hole you speak of? Mine didn't have any holes. The only spot you had to worry about was the intake but like John and I have said. It would have to be prolonged amount of time in high water for hydrolock. Daily driving, you are aok. I did for 2 years on my previous s2000 and came out ok. You can get the shower cap to keep your intake clean with extra peace of mind.

The hole that im talkin about is on this thread ....Look for the 2nd picture, the guys taped up the hole so the water wont make its way to the filter and drip on it. Keep in mind that this only happens when the car is parked in rain.

Yeah, most aftermarket intakes don't gain much over the stock. The only difference in reality is the sound.

No prob man, just keep on checking the events calendar stickied up at the top to sign up for events you can make. We always have events coming up. Usually on the weekends so everyone can make them. Don't worry about being stock. We have plenty of members that still are. Heck, even I am back to basically stock .
