Indecisive
Ill start off with my reason to being inconclusive.
My uncle lives outside Houston and has been offering me a job at the company he works with.
At least, thats what I hear from my parents and grandparents.
Been telling me off an on for about half a year now and I find myself getting more and more interested. Not to mention that its retarded freezing in the UMW during winters and were expecting a snow storm here in a few hours
Cold weather is soo depressing.
My question is, whats it like around Houston?
My biggest fear is someone messing with my car.
Ripping the top, stealing seats, steering wheel, sterio, shift knob, vandalizing the exterior ect.
How hot does it get out there?
Any problems with water? (I wash and detail my car frequently)
Last time I was down that way I came across what I thought was a sand storm, not sure really.
Fire ants too, I lived in Mobile, AL a couple years ago and they made a home out of my 93' prelude. Seriously not a great thing!
Also, heat-wise, would I haveto worry about something possibly melting in my car?
I'd have more questions but im kind of brain dead at the moment.
Havn't put much thought into the whole thing.
Love spring, summer and fall up here by Chicago.
Winters are just unbareable and severely depressing though.
I'll be lingering around here in your community forum to try and get to know alittle more about living and working in Texas.
Thanks for reading and hope to get some advice, tips, tricks, and maybe help

Sand storm? I have never seen one.The only sand around here is at the beach!
My question is, whats it like around Houston? I personally love it.Lots of different cultures etc.
As far as someone messing with your car, well that can happen anywere. Were not the best city out there but were not Compton,California either! lol.
Hot wise it depends.Summer time it will be in high 90s.No problems with water restriction as far as I know.I havent seen a fire ant in a long time either.
And about things melting in your car,no nothing in there will melt.Maybe some ice cream or M & M's but not like plastic, etc.lol
And you dont have to worry about putting your car up in the winter or anything like that.We just plain dont get snow. The usual lowest temp it gets around here will be in the 30's.

i moved down here from up north a long time ago. it will take you a few years to get use to the heat. There is really no winter here. it does get cold but nothing crazy.
houston is a big city. stuff happens. I have had my car broken into and the top slashed. insurance took car of it. I don't really get stressed out over scratches or dent. it happens in a big city with alot of people.
no sure about sandstorms in houston, however houston does flood. houston is very flat with no hills and almost at see level.

Sounds like a paradise besides the common theif and door bashing A-holes.
30 degree winters? I wish I had that now!
The S hasn't seen daylight since it snowed a week ago. Midwest salt trucks seem to dump all they got in an hours drive.
Its sickening.
I really want to look into this more, you may see a new member to the Houston area. I may be out there in mid to late summer, quite curious of what im being offered. I dont want to make a jump now, no vacation time available yet, and im not quite sure of what i'll be doing vs. what im making.
I remember quite distinctly how little I earned living in Mobile.
Thanks for the replies!
