Default Freckled by Rock Salt

Not sure what forum to put this in, but I have a question regardless :-)

Every 1st of the year, I go on a new years run with a couple of friends. This year, I was following behind a buddy closely and was really pelted by alot of rock salt from previous snow. I haven't cleaned the car as of yet but I'm afraid the front end is looking pretty razed as it is.

What would you guys/girls recommend as a solution (prior to new paint of course)

Thanks.

Wash the car and take pictures. You have no idea what the status is until you do at least that.

ITS TOO COLD TO DO ALL THAT! j/k Well, it IS cold here in Atlanta but I'll have to do just that soon enough. Our regular high here is about 52f, we're at 29f for the high this week so I'll unfortunately have to wait until it warms up just a tad. Washing a car with freezing water is a bit difficult.

Ckit, thanks for the prompt reply but, hypothetically, what would someone do to try to get said damage taken care of? I've heard of a "black wax".

I would go to Honda parts and get a paint match touch up pen...works well for even small rock nicks and makes them almost impossible to detect from over 5 feet away.

If it is rock chips than paint either touch up or re-paint is your only option.

If you are going to do a lot of spirited driving on roads littered with winter debris...you may want to consider getting a clear bra or even a used vinyl bra to install for winter joy rides.

I first would definitely clean it regularly being that it is rock salt. The longer you keep it on your car, the more damage it can do. As far as nicks, I would just do touch up. Our cars are so low that you will get some type of rock chips on you bumper/hood frequently.

Another solution is maybe clear bra. You will probably see the rock chip marks, but a better protection to chemicals from the salt. Anyways, it sounds like you'll be driving the S thru the snow just make sure to wash the salt off regularly. That's how rust will start.

Touch up the sandblasting with a black Sharpie until you're ready for repaint.

I've used it for many years while my car was Berlina...worked great, no one could tell until I told them, and then they looked for it.
