Ulrich, that's just a freak accident. You should be more worried about the driver next to you when you drive.

I understand where Ulrich is coming from, so don't feel bad at all man. Carmen was fed this BS at her work. So safety conscious, which is a good thing...

but she is one of those people that believes everything a "professional" tells her. So much so to the point, she thinks she's always "in the know" about everything. when she tells me things liek this, I roll my eyes and say that's retarded. Of course it's possible, but a lot of things have to happen for things like this to happen.

I always tell her to use her instinct and her own thoughts more, but she prefers not to I guess. I think as long as you use common sense (assuming you have some) you should be ok in life. Some things you just can't avoid. I just hate how she says I HAVE to do this and I HAVE to do that... that shit. I does what I want!! hahaha

I HAVE to see a financial advisor about my finances, BULLSHIT, gimme money and I know what to do with it, HAHHAHA

regardless, good lookin out Ulrich.

The discharge of static electricity is actually more than just a theoretical possibility. I remember a few years ago, there was a major recall on Opel cars in Germany (another fine part of the General Motors family). Seems that someone decided to save a few cents and not install a little plastic piece inside the gas tank opening -- as a result, there were numerous instances of gas tank flare-ups because of static build-up.

Does it happen every time to every car? No. Can it happen to you? Yes. Can you take minor precautions by adjusting your behavior? You bet your sweet behind.

If you don't/won't, I'd appeciate not engaging in that kind of behavior when I'm around.

Funny.

Anyways, yes, static electicity is very dangerous around pumps. I was just stating that cell phones aren't.

LOL. They tried to replicate this one on Myth Busters the other night on discovery. Cell phones won't cause a fire/explosion, while static electricity will, but it takes a substantial and some pure, good or bad luck. However you want to look at it.
