I disagree. You can indeed induce a fire with a cell phone or pager for that matter. A couple of years back at an oil refinery, someone flipped open their phone while working at a panel... The next think you know the guy is laying flat on his ass. When he opened the phone up to answer it, it activates a switch to answer the phone. Now you can say yeah yeah yeah... but working around the oilfield and offshore, static discharge is no laughing matter. Every radio that is out in the field (oil rig) has to be Intrinsically safe ie... limited energy/current. It also has to do with the amount of combustable mixture to air, if right you better watch your ass. It is also policy at most oil refineries that they will NOT let you go into the plant with cell phones or pagers.
