Default Speed Limits Lowered!!!

I heard a while back that to meet certain federal emission guidlines (for government funding) the speed limits were supposed to be lowered back down to 55 MPH in and around Houston last November. November came and went and much to my relief, no new speed limits. I heard on the radio this morning that the new speed limits have been passed and the county comissioner has just been slow getting the new signs up, but they are coming!!!

Watch out for the new signs!!! This is a cops favorite place to radar... and since we usually travel slightly over the old speed limits... it could be BAD!

If you have any more info, or see the speed limits in any area changed, post here.

From what I've heard on the news this morning, it seems that only some parts of North Houston have the new signs up yet. Watch out for those new 55mph signs!! They'll be coming to a theater near you....

HOUSTON -- Beginning this week, motorists with a lead foot in the nation's fourth-largest city are being told to put on the brakes instead.

Come on guys! This is Texas, don't you have enough shotguns to remove those new signs faster than they go up? I guess someone needs to make a gun rack for the stook!

Hey, maybe this is a plot from the "anti-stook"-ers because of the Houstooks club name.

I am totally confused. How the hell will dropping the speed limit help smog. Am I missing somthing?? So instead of traveling to work... say in 30 minutes (that's 30 minutes of smog pollution), it will now take you 45+ minutes to get to work (a full 15 minutes more your engine runs). Also, in rush hour, car's sitting at idle and moving 5 mph sure helps pollution?? I mean... if they want less pollution, fix the ****ing freeways.... offer mass transit..... The only thing I see that lowering the speed limit is going to do, is raise some nice funds for the police department and justice departments..

/end rant

Me getting a speeding ticket!

Dale, I couldn't agree more. I hope someone double checked their science... then again this is the same logic that is putting in a multi-million dollar rail service between downtown and the Astrodome!

personally I feel that the biggest contributor to the 'smog' is the refineries... and I agree that all this lowering of speed limits will do is provide revenue for police/city in form of speeding tickets.
