Default TWANS TECH THREAD

so it turns out my car had develop a ticking noise...yes that noise that everyone notices lol and yes vic, your car makes that same ticking noise

I ended up tearing apart the timing chain tensioner as i already knew that it was the root cause of it.
Well talk about it being a beaatchhh to put back together lol...whole project took me a hour...
2mins was taking it off the car and dissasembling the unit...
then 5mins went to cleaning it...
1min went to sanding...
30seconds went to expanding the spring
and the rest went to putting it back together with the improper tools

just got back from mexico running a few GTOs and ponies for fun..and usually the ticking noise is reallyyyyyy loud---but its dead quiet

Time consumed - 1hr
Cost of repair - 5 dollars
Money saved - 125 bucks - - - -a new tensioner was in the 130s

YAY for THUAN - he saved a 125 by ghettofying a repair

I had that ticking noise and just replaced my tct. Pretty quick and simple, however its already going out again. And I just replaced it last summer. I've been reading about how it could be mobile one oil...

I've never heard of an 06 having a TCT issue. Usually it's only the AP1's that have this problem.

Well, I can't differentiate the ticking noise so I'll let someone else listen to my car next time.

If the TCT is going bad, your motor should sound like a Diesel.

its a high pitch rattle lol....and ap1 or ap2 both use the same tct....my first went out around 35k and now im at 60k...ran honda oil for the first set to 35k and made a switch to full synthetic and its out at 55k...so not sureeee if its the oil or the driving condition. HOWEVER changing the oil viscosity did eliminate the ticking noise..

anywho, still puttin it up to the test so ill see how long this lasts
