Default Driver skill/autox

After reading yet another thread about some guy losing it, I'm thinking that I would like to improve my driving skills in a controlled environment. I used to do karting and I realize this probably doesn't translate completely to a "real car". So, I was thinking I might try this Evolution Phase one
I would hate to show up for an autox event and be totally out of my element. At least with this driving school you have some in car coaching, etc.
Any opinions?

Absolutely the best way to get started....but you can come out to some of the events and take rides, too... you might want to get started with autocross even before taking the school.

rjosey, how does someone grab a ride at an autox, and would I need to bring helmet and neck pad?

A change of underwear would be nice as well! It's scary riding fast in a car that you don't have any control over.

Many will let you ride with them, as long as they are not in the points chase.

Yeah, rides are free to all

Just show up, the club has multiple loaner helmets you can use.

Evolution Schools are some of the best, excellent way to get into the sport quickly.

Jon - Just come on out and we'll get you fixed up. We offer in car instruction for anyone who requests it during registration. We have one of the most laid back events in the area. I'd recommend that you actually attend a few autocrosses first so that you can get comfortable with your car first. IMO, the Evo school is a bit expensive and you'll get a lot more from it if you already have a feel for the way things work.

Yup, just show up and ask...most of us won't have a problem giving rides. Here's another idea for a great beginning autocross school for quite a bit less than the Evolution school (Saturday school for $50.00 and that includes entry into the Sunday autocross, as well). http://autocross.com/texasregion/
