Fall Tour

Early this fall a few of us are going on a tour through southern New Mexico ( from Albuquerque).
We would like to make this a big Fall meet in Silver City, NM.
The date Is still to be determinded but I wanted to post this now to get you all ready for a senic drive to this meet. We plan on getting a group rate on rooms if you wish to stay overnight and plan on going to the Gila Cliff Dwellings.
If you are interested please post, so I can get an idea of how many will be attending.
Check back often for updates please.
Thanks, Doug
I am interested but it would depend upon the dates. For those of us from North Texas, this is a minimum 3 day trip. the trip back from Silver City could even be a day and a half for some folks depending upon how long they can sit in an S2000.

thats alot. i guess i dont stop as often. im thinking it can be done it less.ABQ to EL paso - 3 hrs
El paso to dfw 9-10 hrs.
but thats just me
There are stretched of the trip that there is no radar enforcement (all by airplane)...
However, the quickest route is not through El Paso, but through Amarillo. I did it in 9 hours once, but I was really hauling arse.
I might add that an off duty firefighter took down my plates on I-40 and radioed ahead to a local cop in Clines Corners to tell him to look out for me... Local cop pulls me over for 40 in a 30 and asked me why I was driving 120 mph on I-40... Told me a firefighter was pacing me and radioed him... I can not believe he didnt write me a ticket for 40 in the 30...
On another note, time permitting, stop by to see the Blue Hole, the local swimming and scuba hole... If you're a diver, you need a special permit to dive there and you have to account for altitude (8000 ft not 5000 ft above sea level. I did a night dive there and the water was so clear, I could see the stars and moon from 80 ft below. 61 degree water, so its coooold...

I'm stationed in between ALBQ and EP. I drive home everytime i'm on leave, takes me a total of 11 1/2 hrs doing the speed limit from Alamogordo( 1hr from ep and 2 1/2 hrs from Albq) to get to GP. It's a drive i've taken 5 times. Can be pretty long.
The drive from Dallas to Silver City is pretty long. The scenery in the Gila National Forest is going to be to die for. We are planning to get there when the leaves start changing all their colors so it should be a pretty amazing view for all you nature buffs. The roads in that area are also very fun from what i have herd. Lots of tight twists and elevation changes through out the mountain range.
I just did a trip from Albuquerque to San Antonio, Austin, and Port Aransas.
The trip to SA wasn't bad, straight roads and lots of nothing. Might have been going 90+ on cruise control the whole way and it was still a 9 hour drive total.
If you Dallas/Fort Worth people are really this interested i would maybe hit highway 180 / 62 to Carlsbad that way you can get almost a straight shot there.
