Flaming Honda
Forget Hybrid technology. Either it is really in its infant stages, or the tehnology hasn't full matured. But I don't see the technology matching up with the marketing hype that surrounds it.
I think Hybrids are for wannabe hippies that enjoy the status quo of looking to be "environmentally friendly" and raising a big stink over the ones who drive non-environmentally friendly cars. That's why Hybrid Prius sales so well while other Hybrids do piss-poor.
Diesels the way to go.

It depends on the course setup and lot. At Mineral Wells, or some larger road course style course I'd give the S2000 a very good chance. At a lot like pennington with a very tight short course I think a well prepped FSP Prius would have a chance.
Horsepower isn't as relevant to autocross as you think, locally there are a few STS 89 Civic Si's (street tire) that can hang with many RWD cars with 300-400 hp. A lot of it comes down to how fast a car can transition and torque coming out of corners. Most of it comes down to driver but don't underestimate the performance of a set of well matched stiff springs and shocks along with some wide R compound tires.
The thread on SCCA indicated that FSP car was running with the top STS cars. Locally the STS guys run almost even with STU which would blow the doors off any local S2000 on street tires (myself included).
Here's a video I found, on this type of course it's likely a street tire S2000 would be plowing cones and oversteering everywhere if the driver didn't have great car control and good judgement with the right foot. That prius doesn't look very well prepped however.
