Good BBQ in north Dallas?
#21
I think North Texas bbq will leave you disappointed. Out of the chains that have been mentioned, Rudy's is great, but I'm not a fan of the others. I have tried Clark's & I think it's worth the drive.
If you're willing to leave North Texas, check out this article in Texas Monthly, http://www.texasmonthly.com/magazine/bbq. They compile a list of the best bbq places in Texas every five years & I think this issue for the 2008 listing just came out. They place they rated the best is called Snow's. Snow's is northwest of Austin & is only open one day (Saturday) a week. And their hours are 8am - noonish, or whenever they run out of food.
If I ever get to try it, I'll report back with my findings.

Texan or not... if you really knew BBQ, you would know that real BBQ is pork and there isn't a good place around here that makes good pork BBQ.
We can debate tomato versus vinegar based sauces in another thread...

I prefer the vinegar, we usually smoke about 10 to 15 pork butts a year

I grew up on pork BBQ and vinegar sauce and I never liked BBQ. Then I moved to Texas and found beef and tomato based sauces. Now I like BBQ.
I can take a pulled pork occassionally but not often.

Kreuz' is by far the best. Black's is second. Clark's is pretty good, but it's a bit of a drive; a non-S2K drive would make it marginally closer. Original Sonny Bryan's is quite good and it's nice to have it in our backyard.
Give Back Yard BBQ on upper Greenville Ave. a try. It's not bad. There's also Peggy Sue BBQ across from SMU off Hillcrest.

Anyone have any new bbq findings to report in North Texas? I recently have been visiting the bbq restaurant inside Whole Foods Market and it's been really good.
WFM does everything very well, but I was very surprised that their in-house bbq would be *that* good.
