Default HELP! i need computer help

my computer does not load up the desktop icons or taskbar. my background wallpaper and mouse cursor are all that appear. ctrl+alt+del and right click both do nothing. i can run the computer in safe mode fine. (that is how i can check this, but its a big pain)

if anyone has the know how to help me fix this i'd greatly appreciate it and supply you with all the beer it takes to get it fixed. also, if someone can help me back up my documents/pictures/music via safe mode, i'd appreciate that too! if i get some help backing it up then i can just reinstall windows and be done with it. i don't have a ton of stuff to copy, i just can't burn cd's in safe mode.

i'll be around all day. if anyone can lend a hand, please call me since my internet is very spotty.

thanks!

scott

I have no idea what's wrong but when my computer does stupid stuff like that I go back in safe mode and do a system restore. Just pick a date in the past where you knew it worked fine and restore it back to that point then reboot in normal mode.

System restore is prob the best way to go... any programs you've installed since the last restore point will need to be reinstalled but your documents/files created by them should still be on the drive.

If you want to backup your files in safe mode you could probably do it to a thumb drive if you have one.

The other option is to run HiJackThis and you can run the log through a web based parser (another one here) to get an idea of what to clean up.

If you still need help I can look at the computer for ya... for the price of dinner or somethin since I don't really drink... but I'm busy tonight so it would have to be tomorrow after work (I work in Garland@76/635, live in Plano@75/Spring Creek, your call...)

+1 for the thumb drive.

go to fry's or microcenter and can get a 1gb for less than $20

copy all the stuff you need and just do a fresh install.

first i would try to run avg
second spyware doctor
if not resolved, do the thumbdrive
