Default Orlando Mac help needed

my imac G5 started acting up last night. the boot up process is very slow and opening programs is very slow. it had been running fine earlier in the day.

iMac G5 running the latest tiger software. i think it might be HP software related because since the latest Mac update my HP printer hasn't been happy. can anyone in Orlando take a look at my computer and give it a tune up? this is my first Mac and it's only 5 months old.

any advice is appreciated. $ or for anyone that can cure the thing.

thanks,

matt

come on, i know some of you are Mac geeks. help me out. $$ money to the victor!!

i deleted the HP software, turned off Norton AV. everything is dragging, boot up, opening and closing of programs, keyboard input. i don't know what's happening. i could really use some Mac help. i hate calling tech support and getting the usual treatment. i need someone to tweak this bitch and get her running right.

just ran disk utility and received the following error:

Verifying volume "Macintosh HD"
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Invalid node structure
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

advise PLEASE!!!

Back up all your important files first. If you can, put them on an external hard drive, or burn them to DVD. Also, if you have the space to back up the library under your account. this will save all e-mails, preferences, etc.

HP and MAC don't get along what kind of printer is it?

first: MAC maintenece

I have to ask: did you click "repair disc" from the utilities? you have to start up from the OSX install disc to do it.
mac disc utility

If that doesn't do the trick, use a third party disc utility. Do not use Norton on a mac running OSX. That utility is notorious for failures. Use
Disc warrior or Tech Tool Pro

if that fails, let me know. you will get your MAC back. do not despair.

I had similar symptoms from my iBook not too long ago...bad news was the HD was failing. Willie Gee's advice seems spot on to me!

attempted to start from the OSX disk 1 and all it wanted to do was re-install. ditched that idea.

trying to load Disk Warrior currently and its seems stuck. the fans are loud so i know i have entered the "repair world" but after 8 minutes all i got is the grey apple logo and whirling fans.....

stopped by the apple store at millienia mall earlier today and they told me i could bring it in under warranty. i will attempt to fix but if it pukes, its going to apple for repair.

i was able to repair permissions earlier today, after that i tried to verify disk again and i got another similar error message....
