Lone Star BMW CCA Night Autocross 9-25-2010!
COME DO IT IN THE DARK... the Night AUTOCROSS IS BACK
The Lone Star Chapter Night Autocross/Autocross weekend is coming up... SEPTEMBER 25TH/26TH AT MINERAL WELLS AIRPORT
Do you feel like Autocross is nothing but " standing around " all day?
Do you feel like an autocross doesn't give you enough seat time?
Frustrated that you never really get to hang out and bench race with your buddies until the event is nearly over?
The Lone Star Chapter Night autocross is the solution...
Limited to 40 attendees.... we split the groups into two.... and each group runs in the daytime for at least an hour..
This generally turns out to be nearly unlimited runs to familiarize yourself with the course.... not a paltry two or three runs....
Then.. at dusk.... we break for a COOKOUT.. and add in the glow sticks... As the sun sets we once again hit the course IN THE DARK. Once again.. at least an hour of runs for your group... then a chance to hang out with your new found friends and competitors and enjoy the a Texas Summer night while having a beverage....
MEMBERS -$30
NON MEMBERS - $40
Bring plenty of TIRE because you will need it!
Accommodations for those that wish to stay overnight...

These events are a lot of fun. It is very casual, good food, and it is a really unique experience driving out there with no headlights. You can really see the glow sticks from far away, so you don't get lost. Give this a try!

No headlights?!?! I didn't realize that! That seems like there would be a lot of safety concerns. Is it just 1 car on course at a time, and no corner workers?

I was worried about safety my first time, too. It was not a problem.
No corner workers at night.
You can see further with the glow sticks than you can your headlights at speed. It is like that old Atari game where you drive the 3-d dotted course. Really neat stuff.
Also, with one color of glow stick on the left and one color on the right, you do not really need to memorize the course. Just keep the colors on the correct side. It might be a little hard for Zo, but the rest of you should be okay.

My 2 concerns would be that A) if the car in front of you spins or stalls, you might not see him until it's too late, and B) if the car in front of you relocates a cone in front of you, and it's position just perfectly in your line, you'll damage the front spoiler.

You can have smoother runs, since you aren't concentrating on the road in front of you, but the next set of gates further along the course. The first year I did it, I managed better times in the dark, than I had during daylight practice.
